(1/4/2012) As a transgender woman, it causes issues when I refer to myself as a “brony”. I would really love a more inclusive term.

In my head, “brony” is gender-neutral.


As another transgender woman with the same issue… it doesn’t really matter what it is in your head. What matters is that it causes us distress, because we can’t see it as anything other than a gendered term uncomfortably dissonant with our self-identification.^ Well, I can’t really do anything about that. Feel free to make another term that you can use to refer to yourself, I’m still going to use “brony” when I refer to fans of the show, unless I’m talking to you specifically.

All right then. So long as you don’t act indignant that we’re uncomfortable with the term — a response I’ve seen more than once — I don’t really care how you choose to deal with the issue.
